Dionysus Artichoke Seeds
This is a very pretty, purple artichoke that does well in colder climates, having proved itself productive in coastal England. It is relatively new to the artichoke world just being available in the last few years. The bottoms are thick giving the heads high weights compared to other similar sized artichokes. The bottoms will not grow wide as some varieties, but the purple color and the antioxidants associated with that profile, paired with high flavor give good results in cooking. It’s not that fastest producer and takes its time to develop, but the results are worth it.
Grower’s Tips - some germinate indoors, with wet paper towel and Ziplock bag method at room temperature. Or sow, directly into soil, ¾ inch deep, colder soil will slow germination. Best to wait until the final freeze of the season to plant. When days reach 85 f, germination will slow.
Pre-plant- pre-irrigate planting area and fertilize if you choose or mix in your organic fertilizer at this time. Plant into damp ground and keep on the dryer side until a few true leaves form.
